Description
POSITION OVERVIEW:
The Relief Residential Support Staff is an employee hired on a
needed basis to provide coverage when regular full-time or
part-time employees are not working their regularly scheduled shift
due to vacation, illness, paid holiday(s) or any other requested or
required absence. The Relief Residential Support Staff will provide
residential care participants/residents in any of our residential
programs. These programs include Les Marquis Family Emergency
Shelter, Banyan House Transitional Housing Facility, El Chante
Substance Use Disorder Men's Recovery Home, and Sally's Place Peer
Respite Home.
The Relief Residential Support Staff works with our
participants/residents by providing a unique level of support that
places an emphasis on responsibility, respect, and compassion.
Please note that training for each individual program is required
prior to taking any shift for the different residential
programs.
A Relief Residential Support Staff can work 0- 37.50 hours a week
depending on the needs of the individual residential programs. In
this flexible position, you are not regularly scheduled to work,
have no set shifts, and staff will be called on to cover shifts
that are day shifts, early evening shifts, night shifts or
graveyard shifts. This role will uphold and champion the agency's

Essential Job Functions and Responsibilities:
- Relief Residential Staff must be able to work a flexible work
schedule
- Must be available for a last minute call to cover a shift
- Not regularly scheduled to work specific shifts or hours.
- Work hours vary week-to-week, dependent when full-time or
part-time staff call out for their shift or when they are on
vacation, or to cover a leave of absence.
- Provide supervision and monitoring of residents on site,
consistent with the program policies and procedures, which may vary
significantly from site to site/program to program.
- Ensure that residents participate in site programming as
expected.
- Appropriately and accurately, document interventions, client
behavior, and program progress.
- Answer the telephone and the door efficiently and courteously,
as needed.
- Detect and implement appropriate disciplinary reports and
actions on violations of community rules/comfort agreements.
- Perform other general office duties as expected for the shift
being covered.
- Able to think and act quickly and efficiently in
emergencies.
- Comply with all safety policies and procedures, including
workplace safety, reporting work related injuries, and preventing
potential safety risks for staff, clients and others.
- Respond to telephone calls pertaining to crisis, request for
referrals, and requests for program information.
- Dispense resident medications as per prescription as needed (El
Chante Men's Recovery Home only).

- Attend trainings and participate in events relevant to key
responsibilities
- Track and regularly report on key metrics for responsible
function areas
- Leads and collaborate on special projects related to agency
objectives as appropriate
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
- High school diploma or GED required
- At least 6 months of volunteer work or work experience in
mental health, substance abuse, or working with families and
children required.
- Clear Tuberculosis Test and Health Screening from within the
last 60 days - required.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred
- Must be able to work flexible work hours
- Must be able to work a shift at least 1-3 times per month
- Knowledge of alcohol and drug prevention and recovery/
treatment programs and principles;
- Knowledge of the effects of alcohol and drug abuse;
- Must demonstrate ability to understand client needs and work
with adult men, particularly Latinos.
- Ability to manage client issues which may occur in recovery
from drugs and mental health issues.
- CPR and First Aid certification (can be provided by La
Familia)
- Experience working with adults in a residential settings
- Accurately and appropriately, document communications,
behaviors and routine facility events as they occur.
- Ability to use the equipment necessary to complete the
responsibilities of the job.
- Non-Profit and Community Based Organization experience highly
desirable.
- Demonstrates and models excellent "customer service"
orientation, especially in the ability to interact with people at
all levels within and outside the agency.
- Thinks independently and can make informed decisions when
needed.
- Exercises extreme discretion with the ability to hold, balance
and transmit public and confidential information needed by various
parties.
- Proficient using MS Office products, particularly Word, Excel,
Outlook and PowerPoint.
- Acquires or maintains proficiency in using Google Drive
products, including Docs, Sheets, and Forms.
- Valid CA Driver's license
- Auto insurance: Personal vehicle may be used for business
related purposes; it is recommended you inform your auto insurance
carrier.
